New Zealand 2018

New Zealand had long been on the list of countries that I wanted to visit, and I decided that 2018 was the year it would happen. It is a long way from Sweden to New Zealand, and to break the journey, I first stayed a few days in Singapore, a country I also had been curious on.

In total, I stayed 5½ weeks in New Zealand, which is far from enough to see the entire country. There are essential parts on both islands for which I had no choice but to give them a miss. Here is a quick summary of my trip:

From Singapore, I flew into Christchurch on the South Island. I crossed the island by train to the west coast where I picked up a rental car and drove along the west coast and in the southern parts of the South Island. I returned the car in Dunedin, and travelled the long way along the east coast by bus to Picton to catch the ferry. After a few days in Wellington (where I actually spoke at SQL Saturday), I picked up a new rental car and visited a couple of places on the North Island. When I flew out from Auckland, I continued in eastern direction and landed in Vancouver to continue to Victoria to speak at their SQL Saturday. My final destination was Bellevue/Redmond for the MVP Summit at Microsoft.

There is no surprise that I took a lot of photos during the trip. I have selected 64 to be a summary of the trip which you further below on this page. If you want to see more pictures, there are 26 sets, with each set dedicated to a specific place or activity, as detailed by the list below. I composed and put these sets as the trip progressed, and I have only made minor corrections since then.

For the the summary, I have given titles and written text for all pictures. In the details sets, many pictures are without text and many do not even have a real title, but only the file name from the camera. Pictures without titles never have any text.
