I flew into Charlotte and stayed the first night with a friend who took care of a suitcase which I left behind to use when I came back to Charlotte for PASS. The next day I travelled by train and bus to New Bern where I had a rental car booked and the next four days I drove around the coastal areas in North Carolina. For those who have not been there, a quick orientation: the area is characterised of wide river mouths which look like bays on the map. They all run into the Pamlico Sound which is a big estuary. The Pamlico Sound is separated from the Atlantic by a couple of narrow but long islands and peninsulas, collectively known as the Outer Banks. It was a nice trip, but it was far too rushed given distance I was driving. Seven days would maybe have been more reasonable. Well, I can't blame anything else than my own bad planning.
