Coming from Wilson, New Bern was definitely an improvement. The town has quite a few older buildings and generally a nice atmosphere. While not bustling with life, it does not feel desolated like Wilson. The city is nicely situated on the confluence of the Neuse and Trent rivers, which both are very wide here. This is from Pollock Street, maybe the nicest street in town. To the right a building which is noteworthy not for its nondescript outside but for what once happened on the inside. To wit, it was here Caleb Bradham in his drugstore composed what he called Brad's drink and which later would conquer the world as Pepsi Cola. |
