22. Saint-Jean Pied-de-Port

My original plan was to go to Paris from Bilbao, but a big city in the heat was not appealing, so I looked in my guidebooks and found Saint-Jean Pied-de-Port in the French part of the Basque lands. It was a huge smash! The train ride from Bayonne alone was worth the trip. The small town is very nicely situated at the foot of the Pyrenees, and the surroundings offers plenty of walking and cycling alternatives. And in difference to Arenas de Cabrales and Manteigas there was more than one restaurant to choose from – we're in France!

The picture is quite dull, but I returned to Saint-Jean in 2010 and stayed for fives days. From that trip there is a load of pictures - and of far better quality.
