The best way to enjoy the pond is to rent a canoe, they say, and so I did. Partly, this was because I thought I could get some exercise before going to the Okefenokee Swamp, where the plan I would go by canoe for two days. You see, I had never been sitting in a canoe before, and it took me some time to get out from the shore as the boat was only going in circles at first. Paddling in the water was an experience, although I found the life-vest uncomfortably warm. And I certainly did not feel like falling into the water, as the guidebook had indicated that there are alligators in the pond. I did not see any, though, only turtles.
