Dresden was the site from one of the worst war crimes from the Allies side in WWII. There is simply nothing to defend the massive bombing that destroyed most of central Dresden and killed some 30 000 people. Many of the fine baroque buildings were turned into rubble. Today, a few of these buildings have been restored, and while they dominate the area just south of the Elbe river, Dresden mainly consists of less exciting post-war buildings. However, Dresden hosts some very fine museums where of the two Green Vaults are simply breath-taking. Not that you will see any pictures of them here – you have to leave your camera before you enter.
