Görlitz is a city in the German Bundesland of Saxony, but historically it is part of Silesia, a region which is largely in Poland these days. The city was saved from bombing during WWII and its old town is well-preserved. When I read about the city, I decided to add it to my trip. There were however two obstacles to make my visit really enjoyable. One was the fact that my visit coincided with an Altstadtfestival. The city was jammed with people. While it was fun in a way, all the fun-fair attractions and market stands made it difficult to see and enjoy the beautiful houses. The other troubling factor was simply that it was stinking hot, around 33°C.
