It's not very often I arrive somewhere to find that the local speciality is a drink, least of all a non-alcoholic one. All over town in València they sell a milky drink made on chufas, a tiger-nut, and it's certainly refreshing. The drink is known as Orxata in Valencian, and Horchata in Castilian. You can actually get horchata all over Spain, but the home of Orxata is in València, or more precisely in Alboraia, a village in the outskirts of town. The building in the background also calls for a comment. This is the new railway station in València for AVE and other fast trains. It stands in stark contrast to the elegance of Estació del Nord. This is a sterile box which is just as dull on the site, and which never can have passed the eye of an architect. |
