This very Stalinist building qualifies less because of its architectural beauty and more because of its historical importance. It was from the roof of this building that Nicolae and Elena Ceauşescu fled in a helicopter just before Christmas 1989. The white pillar in the foreground is part of a memorial for the martyrs of the revolution. Today the building hosts government offices.
