The T-shaped bridge crosses one of the river arms that run through Hiroshima, and it has a branch to the Nakajima island in the river. The T-shaped bridge was the aim for the bombers, although the bomb fell down a short distance from the bridge. The bridge was heavily assaulted and was lifted up but somehow fell back down in place, and was unusable for some ten years. But by the time that bridge was replaced, and this is a successor. Almost all buildings on Nakajima were entirely destroyed by the bomb. Today the Peace Park is on the north part of the island. |
