This far north in Chile, the landscape is a desert. There are places in the Atacama desert where it almost never rains. Iquique itself sits on a narrow strip between the sea the coastal range, which is the mountains we see in the distance. Between the coastal range and the Andes there is a plateau of flat land that slowly rises in elevation. You may sense something green in the distance. That is the small village Huara along the Panamericana. |
