Iquique is in the far north of Chile, 200 km south of the Peruvian border. It rose to fame during the nitrate boom in the 19th century. Today, it is a popular for its beaches, but some 200 000 people live here in total. This is the pedestrian street Baquedano which is lined by some older buildings. On a Saturday morning there is not much action here, but the place is lively in the evening when restaurants and bars are open. |
