From Manteigas I continued into Spain. From the Portuguese border village, I tried to take a taxi across the border, but instead the taxi driver took me all the way to the bus station in Ciudad Rodrigo, 30 km away. This was before the days of the euro notes, and I was in need of Spanish money. I could not find an ATM around the bus station, so I walked into the centre of town and found the centre was packed with old buildings and definitely worth a stopover for a few hours. This is a square in this very quiet town.
