Oviedo is the capital of Asturias, which is not only a region in Spain – still today it holds status as a principality. The guidebook gave good press to some very old Romanesque churches outside of town, but I did not find them very interesting. I continued up the hill where there is a recreational area and quite pleasant in general. My notes says that what looks like a lighthouse in the distance is a statue of Christ, built from concrete blocks by prisoners of war during the Spanish Civil war.
