| Koxinga is an important person in Taiwanese history. He was a Ming general who fought against the new Qing overlords on the mainland. In 1661, he turned to Taiwan where the Dutch East India Company was ruling. Koxinga ousted the Dutch and established Chinese rule over the island. | ||
