I spotted this graffiti on the door up to the Town Hall tower. The text in red with the heart reads Donbass loves Bandera, certainly a very controversial statement. Stepan Bandera was a Lviv native who led a movement for an independent Ukraine in opposition to the Polish supremacy. The Poles imprisoned him for involvement against an attack on a Polish minister. When the Nazis came along, Bandera proclaimed an independent Ukrainian state, but it did not take long until the Nazis had him in prison again. They let him out in 1944 in hope that his movement would help them to fight the Soviets.

In Lviv, Bandera is largely seen as a national hero, but when President Yushchenko in 2010 named him Hero of Ukraine, this did not only cause an outcry in Russia, but also in large parts of Europe due to his Nazi collaboration. No, it is not likely that Bandera is loved very much in Donbass. Least of all by the separatists.
