5. A Missing Statue

Down at the Besarabsky Market, or rather at the beginning of the Taras Shevchenko Boulevard, there was a Lenin statue which survived the downfall of communism for over 20 years, but which was eventually taken down during the Maidan protests. A friend of mine deplored this. Not because she was a fan of Lenin, but simply because she found the statue to be a good piece of art. Apparently, it was quite unique in that it was a single piece of red granite.
