As the Soviets evacuated Kiev when the Nazi forces were approaching, they booby-trapped most of the street, whereupon the Nazis took an awful revenge. This lead to Khreshchatyk being dominated by Soviet-style architecture, which is not exactly beautiful. This house has some intriguing twists though. You may recognise the draping with Slava Ukraini on Maidan in the background.
