Kamyanets is town that I visited as a day trip from Chernivtsi. Despite the vicinity, its history is quite different. After the demise of Kievan Rus, Kamyanets ended up in Poland where it remained, save for a 25-year interlude in the Ottoman Empire, until Poland was sliced up in the end of the 18th century. In 1793 Kamyanets became a Russian possession, and remained so until the breakup of the Soviet Union. The old town has a very special location: it's located on a rock which in practice is an island with a river in a gorge meandering on both sides. The city offers some old buildings and an old fort, but also some beautiful surroundings.
