Poltava is a provincial capital, some 300 km east of Kiev. It's claim to fame is the decisive battle that took place here in June 1709 and which in practice meant the end for Sweden as a great power. My friend Oksana is originally from Poltava and she was going there to see her grandmother and encouraged me to join her. She was also kind to show me around in her home town. I will have to admit, though, that Poltava was not really the most exciting place I've visited. But to be fair: it was grey and rainy most of the day.
This suite of pictures also includes some pictures of the Ukrainian countryside taken from the train window. (But not from the rides between Kiev and Poltava, which both were after dark.)
