33. To Grandfather Mountain

Grandfather Mountain is a privately owned park centred around the mountain with the same name. There appeared to be some worthwhile sights, and I decided to make it my next stop. Not the least because they have a lunch restaurant... Getting off the Blue Ridge Parkway, I soon ran into a queue of cars. You cannot say that they were very efficient in taking up the entrance fee. Most people paid with credit cards, which took some time since people first gave the card to the guy in the booth, then got the receipt so that they could sign and then got ticket and card back. Certainly it would be more efficient to walk around in the line of cards with a wireless card read reader and people could just put in their pin code. ...oops, in this underdeveloped country they are still relying on the magnetic strip of the card and don't use the chip.
