The Boone Hall Plantation was not an equally great experience as the Magnolia Plantation, mainly because it was more of the same and not equally majestic. However, Boone Hall is interesting in one regard: in difference to Magnolia, it is still a functioning plantation. They have grown various crops here over the years, including peaches. They have also embraced modern methods. Here they are employing something known as plasticulture where they drape walls there the seeds are sown into plastic which keeps the humidity. There are also channels for water in the plastic and the distribution of water is computer-controlled. Once the plants starts growing, they open holes in the plastic, but they keep the plastic on. The technique was originally developed in Israel where water is scarce, but it has helped to increase the harvest in wet South Carolina as well.
