Magnolia Plantation was once a rice plantation that built its wealth on slavery as so many other plantations in the south. Today it is a marvellous place to visit. You pay an entrance fee for the gardens itself, and then you can pay additional fees for special attractions. One of these is the Audubon Swamp Garden where you can walk around freely (no guide). Here you can see how the nature might have looked like before the European settlements in the area and the garden is rich of wildlife. It was a great experience. This is a small pond covered by duckweed. |
