The Aiken-Rhett House dates from 1820 and was once the home of a member of the high society in Charleston. The house is open for tours where you walk through the rooms as well as the kitchen, stables and the slave quarters with an audio guide. (Photos are not permitted, so no photos from the inside.) As time went on, the dwellers of the house became less wealthy and some rooms were simply closed off entirely. The house was eventually donated to Historic Charleston. Most of the interior has not been renovated, so what you see is a little torn, but it is also authentic. |
