Leading to the peninsula was a narrow isthmus and when waves rolled in, many of the passed over the ridge of the isthmus and water ran down the small lagoon. Mind you, if you would walk down to the cape tomorrow or next year, it may all look different, as the sea keeps changing exactly where the sand is.
