Stone Mountain is a geological oddity some 25 km outside Atlanta. A giant boulder that has become uncovered as the mountains of the past has eroded. It is a very popular excursion spot for the Atlanta dwellers, and it is thoroughly commercialised. The engraving dates from the 1920s and depicts three leaders of the Confederate state that Georgia was part of during the War Between the States, as the US Civil War is known as down here.
