Everywhere in the south you see Spanish moss hanging from trees, and they particularly like live oaks, oaks that are green all the year through. (The leaves do fall off, but new ones grow out directly). The Spanish moss is not Spanish, nor it is a moss, or for that matter a parasite. The plant lives off the air and its closest relative is the pineapple. This majestic alley of live oaks leads to the Boone Hall Plantation outside Charleston.
