A few blocks further east from Augustusplatz you find the Grassi museums which are housed in this building. There are three of them: one for musical instruments, one for applied arts and one ethnological museum. You buy tickets for the museums you want to visit and then you can float between them if you like. I came at four in the afternoon, and the lady at the ticket counter tried to discourage me, telling me that they would close in two hours. When I looked at her in disbelief, she told me that I needed three hours for the museum of applied arts alone. It was the museum of musical instruments that had the biggest attraction on me, but she was perfectly right: there is a wealth of things to see in the applied-arts section. I felt ashamed for just dashing through it. |
