Passeig Colom leads up to a big monument with a statue of Christopher Columbus (who is known as Colom in Catalan). When Columbus came back 1493 after his discovery of the New World, he was received in Barcelona by Ferdinand and Isabella, the joint regents of the state that would become known as Spain. In the background, we see Montjuïc.
