The Black Church is maybe the most famous building in Braşov. The name stems from the colour it acquired when Austria occupied the town in 1689, when it was part of the Ottoman Empire. The church was built by the Saxons, and they embraced Protestantism when it came along, why the interior of the church is restrained in decorations. A somewhat unusual feature is a collection of Turkish prayer mats.
