1080 is a controversial number in New Zealand. It is a poison which is dropped in pellets over forest and other areas where they want to redce the number of rats and possums. Of course, there is no poison that kills only these two, so other animals, including birds, also succumbs. I did see in more that one place things like "Ban 1080", for instance on a car.
