In Owakudani the ground is fuming and bubbling. And there is a smell of sulphur. You can go up to the little yellow house and look at some bubbling pools. It's popular here to boil eggs just for the fun of it. Personally, I did find it that exciting.

The ropeway continues from Owakudani down to the Ashino lake, the biggest lake in the area. But that section was temporally closed, so I started to walk down the hill instead. After all, I had planned to do a nature trail in Hakone.
