The second day in Saint-Jean offered the same wonderful sunny weather as the day before. I started my day with taking the bus to Saint-Martin-d'Arrossa, the last stop on the train line before Saint-Jean. (Recall that the bus ran in place of the train). From there I started the ascent to the peak of Jara, 812 metres above sea level. According to the book with walking tours in the area, it would take seven hours up and down, so it seemed to be reasonable to be back in time for the last bus home. I never made that bus for the simple reason that when I was up at the peak by lunchtime, and a look at the map told me that it was a perfectly possible to walk all the way back to Saint-Jean and not be dependent of any bus at all.

Here I've only walked a few hundred metres and I'm still following the railroad.
