And then it happened that I had a dog for a day, or at least until I left town with the bus. On my way out from Tilcara for my morning walk, a dog ran past just close to me, but I didn't take any particular notice. There are plenty of dogs in Argentina, and plenty of them are stray dogs. As I was walking along the road, the dog was ahead of me, every now and then looking back at me. I thought it wanted to return to the village, but wanted to avoid to cross my ways. Since I was heading for the river anyway, I left the road, to permit the dog to return. But then I hear sound behind me, and there she is, gladly wagging her tail. And as I continued my walk, she was always in my surroundings. Not that she was always by my feet, rather she was at some distance, sometimes behind me, sometimes ahead of me. Now, part of the story is that I was badly bitten by a dog when I was three years old, and I still feel incomfortable in the company of dogs. But there is a great difference between Argentina and Sweden in this regard. Argentinian dogs are generally a lot more well-behaved, and knows how to keep a distance to strangers, something far from all Swedish dogs have no understanding of. Nevertheless, this was kind of a revolving experience to me. So why did the dog follow me like this? God knows. But she had a piece of my lunch sandwich, and I guess there is the answer. |
