Given the shape of Chile, it is no surprise that there is one long north-south road that spans the country. Road 5, also known as the Panamericana, goes all the way from Arica on the Peruvian border down to Quellón on Chiloé. From Santiago and south it runs inland, but in the north it runs by the sea in some places. This is north of La Serena, where I am on a bus going north.. |
