And here is himself, Arturo Prat, a Big National Hero in Chile, and you see his bust all over the country. It was at Iquique he earned his fame, more precisly in the battle of Iquique, which at the time was a Peruvian town, in the War of the Pacific 1879-1884, in which Chile fought against Bolivia and Peru and came out as the winner, extending its territory considerably at the dispense of the other two. Prat was not a general, but only a captain. When his boat was lost, he continued to fight with sword in hand on the enemy boat, and the story gave him all the fame.
