My next stop after Puerto Deseado was the small Patagonian town of Perito Moreno, located in the northwestern part of the Santa Cruz province, that is right on the Patagonian steppe. It is not a tourist destination in itself, but I used it as a base to get to La Cueva de las Manos (which appears in the next set). As it turned out, I could not get an excursion on the day after arrival, but I had to wait one more day. In the meanwhile I did a day trip to Los Antiguos, which is nearby by Patagonian standards (56 km!). Situated on Lago Buenos Aires just a few km from the Chilean border, Los Antiguos is on the tourist circuit, although I did not find it that exciting. However, coming to Los Antiguos, also meant a partial escape from the Patagonian monotony. This is a town which actually grows something – this is the national cherry captial of Argentina.
