At midnight I entered a bus in Bahía Blanca. When I woke up in the morning, I did not know exactly where we were, but by looking out the window I could tell that we were in Patagonia, because I have seen that landscape before. Shortly thereafter, the bus made a quick stop in the small town of Sierra Grande in the province of Río Negro. From there it was ten more hours before I reached Comodoro Rivadavia where I broke the journey. The next day I proceeded to the small coastal town of Puerto Deseado which was my actual destination, 850 km from Sierra Grande.
This set of pictures largely consists of pictures from the bus, and you will see that there is very little variation. The shrubs are higher and denser in the first few pictures. Sometimes there are hills, sometimes the land is flat, but it is very much the same: an arid semi-desert landscape, where you can raise sheep, but agriculture is very rare.
And the monotony does not stop in Puerto Deseado. Having been in Patagonia before, I can tell you that you can travel another 1000 km along RN3, and it will remain the same until you reach Tolhuin on Tierra del Fuego which sits on top of the Andean ridge, and then you go down the slope it's all green again, as you are now out of the rain shadow of the Andes.
