2. The Bušaco Forest

Bigger picture

Not too far from Coimbra is the Bušaco forest which is a kind of national shrine for Portugal. And, sure, it was quite beautiful, but the forest is not that big, and having walked around the forest in the morning, it was no distance to return to Luso, the spa village just by for lunch. And what to do next? Well, there were no other option but to return to the forest and spend the afternoon there as well.

The building that you can see among the trees was originally intended to be a royal castle, but scarcely had it been completed when the monarchy was overthrown. Today it is a five-star hotel. I had a coffee break, but I cannot recall that it was a five-star coffee.
