Higashi Chaya is one of Kanazawa's geisha districts – Kanazawa is the only town in Japan beside Kyoto where the old-style training of geishas take place. (Except that they are not called geishas in Kanazawa, but I've forgotten the word they use.) Higashi Chaya is full of old-style houses, tea houses, museums etc. Certainly commercialised, but still worth some hours.
