Kirishima National Park is is inland Kyushu, some 50-60 km north of Kagoshima. I had hoped to be able to do some hiking, but there were not a whole lot of walking trails in the vicinty of my hotel, but it sorted out fairly well anyway. This is a hot-springs area, and this big hotel (more than 400 rooms!) had two big onsens – i.e. hot-spring baths – and I took the opportunity to try it out. I will need to admit that the best thing was to lie in the cold pool at the end of the bath. (No, there are no pictures from the bath. That's strictly prohibited.)
Beppu is a town on the east coast of Kyushu, and this is also a hot-spring place. I only made brief stop here before I took the boat over to Shikoku next morning.
