1. "The Last Samurai"

Saigo Takamori is known as "The Last Samurai". He led an uprising, the Satsuma Rebellion, in 1877 against the Meiji Restoration, which he originally had supported, but which he later felt was taking the wrong direction. The uprising failed, and badly wounded he asked a comrade to kill him. This earned him a status as a hero after his death.
