19. The Peace Statue

Back Main page Fwd

The Peace Statue is the main work in the Peace Park, erected in 1955. The artist was Seibo Kitamura. Possibly it is a little overly elaborated, but here it goes:

  • The elevated right hand points to the threat of nuclear weapons.
  • The outstretched left hand is a symbol for tranquility and world peace.
  • The folded right leg symbolises quiet mediation.
  • The left leg is poised for action in assisting humanity.
  • The closed eyes express a prayer for the repose of the souls of all war victims.
