This is a Shinto shrine in the south-east outskirts of Kyoto, and in my opinion the most spectacular sight in Kyoto.
(And there is a lot to see in Kyoto!). By the foot of a mountain is the very sanctuary, but there is a path going up the
mountain surrounded by orange torii arcs. According to the guidebook there are over 10000 toriis, and an arc is
replaced after ten years. To walk through these veritable tunnels is a bizarre experience, but it is also a nice forest
walk with nice views over Kyoto. To make it even more nice, it started to get warmer; the first days had been quite
chilly.
