2. The Håverud Aqueduct

An important waterway in Dalsland is Dalsland Canal which was created in the 19th century to connect the forest industries in the northeast with the big lake of Vänern. The major part of the canal simply runs on the many lakes, and the dug-out parts are only the connections between the lakes.

However, the connection in Håverud between the lakes of Åklång and Övre Upperudshöljen presented a challenge as the passage is through a fairly narrow gorge. The solution was to build an aqueduct over the river between the lakes.

It's a quite complex arrangement with many things in one place. There is a road bridge (on which I stand to take this picture), there is the aqueduct right in front. Further back is the railway bridge and also a large tube with something. Below everything else is the river. (You will see in a few picture why there is not much water.)
