Dalsland is one of Sweden's smaller provinces, both by area and population. Until 2022, it was also one of the two where I never had set my foot. For many years, I had been thinking of going there, but never come around to until this year.
Dalsland is located in the west of Sweden, bordering to Norway in the northwest and on Vänern, Sweden's biggest lake, on the eastern side. There is only one proper town, Åmål, which still is a small place. (And which I did not visit.)
I stayed at the manor of Baldersnäs, which has both a hotel and a good restaurant. It's situated on a peninsula in one of the many lakes in Dalsland. I took the train to Uddevalla, is in the neighbouring Bohuslän, and picked up a rental car. My plans were not too different from what I do at home in summer: do walks and make bicycle trips.
