The main attraction in Chernivtsi is the university, a masterpiece completed in 1882 by the Czech architect Josef Hlávka. Originally, the complex was originally intended as the residence of the Metropolitans of Bukovina and Dalmatia, and the university was elsewhere in town. It was during Soviet times, the university was relocated here. The complex is now a UNESCO Heritage site.
