Podil is a district on lower elevation than the very centre of Kiev. This area is less plagued by Soviet-style buildings than Khreshchatyk, The large Kontrakova Ploshcha – or Contract Square in English – is the centrepiece of Podil and here are some nice buildings. Up on the hill to the right, you see the back of the gargantuan Foreign Ministry.
