If you saw some coverage in newspapers or other media about the Euromaidan protests, it is likely that you saw this statue of a winged woman high on a column. The Independence Column was erected in 2001. The steps that lead up to it are much older, so presumably it replaced something else. You can also see the setting. In the background a large hotel, and the glassy area below the hotel covers a shopping centre.
