Just a few days after Jamala's victory in the Eurovision Song Contest there was an manifestation on Maidan commemorating the awful crime on humanity she was singing about. It was not only because of her victory; no this very day, May 18th 1944, was the day when the expulsion of the Crimean Tartars started. The candles in the middle draw a map om Crimea and 72 is the number of years that have passed. I don't know what the candles above Crimea are supposed to say, but the red candles below, largely hidden in the picture, said NO TO GENOCIDE or something similar. Aptly, I had dinner at the Crimean Tartar restaurant which is at the other end of Maidan.
